Automatically-controlled manual transmission / motorsport
Automatically-controlled manual transmissions are operated by electro-pneumatic or electro-hydraulic shift elements for shorter shift times and higher torque. For these reasons they were first used in competition and, in a modified form, in heavy trucks. Shifting on the Audi R8 Le Mans with its sequentially arranged, eight speed sports transmission, for example, is electro-pneumatic and operated by levers on the steering wheel.
